The Bernedoodle, also referred to as Bernese Mountain Doodle or Swiss Doodle, is not an independent breed, but a hybrid of two. One parent is a poodle, the other a Bernese Mountain Dog. The aim of this cross is to combine the positive characteristics of both breeds in one dog.

Attitude, character and temperament of the breed
Bernedoodle's nature
The breeding of these hybrids is still quite new, which is why precise statements about the character and temperament of the individual animals cannot be made. Generally speaking, smaller representatives are more active than larger hybrids.
Most of them are playful, intelligent and at the same time bring the relaxed character of the Bernese Mountain Dog with them. However, it can happen that the stubbornness of the poodle prevails in the Bernedoodle puppies. In this case, more consistent training, ideally from an early age, is necessary in order to keep their stubbornness under control. Overly stubborn animals are rare. The positive characteristics of both breeds prevail in most cases. Usually, Bernedoodle breeders will also pay attention to this and stop breeding with particularly stubborn animals or their parents.
These animals need a medium amount of exercise and activity and are also happy to take a breather from time to time.

Typical diseases of the Bernedoodle
As a rule, Bernedoodles are not as prone to diseases as their purebred parents. However, they can be at risk for hip dysplasia and eye diseases. An examination for the former is therefore advisable already at puppy age. Before you buy a Bernedoodle puppy, ask your breeder about previous illnesses of their parents. Conscientious Bernedoodle breeders will test their animals beforehand and only continue to breed with healthy ones.
Where can you find a Bernedoodle?
If you want to buy a Bernedoodle, you will certainly find a few breeders on the Internet. The breed costs around 1500-1800 euros. These hybrids have not been around for long, but their popularity means that they are being bred more and more.
Before you buy a Bernedoodle, pay attention to the environment in which the animals are kept. Don't buy kennel dogs if you want to have a family dog, and the Bernedoodle is perfect as such. Ask the breeder any questions you might have and only go through with the adoption if your gut feeling is right.

- 55-70 cm shoulder height and 30–50 kg body weight for large poodles
- 45–55 cm shoulder height and 11–22 kg body weight for miniature poodles
- 30-43 cm shoulder height and 5–10 kg for toy poodles (this mixture is extremely rare and is avoided in breeding due to the enormous difference in size of the two animals!)
Their life expectancy is estimated at 12–18 years, with the larger animals coming closer to 12 years and the offspring of the toy poodle can reach about 18 years of age.
Appearance of the Bernedoodle
Bernedoodles have a fluffy, curly coat that is often similar in colour to that of the Bernese Mountain Dog. It can be black and white or black and brown. Some animals can also be tri-colour. Their fur is fairly easy to care for and only needs to be brushed occasionally. The animals usually don't shed a lot. Especially if the mother dog is a poodle, it can be assumed that the Bernedoodle puppies will lose less hair than in hybrids where the father is a poodle. They are also known to be hypoallergenic, making them suitable for allergy sufferers.
